Exploring SAGE at Waltonwoods
How conversations with senior living administrators revealed the real-world impact technology can have on cognitive care and emergency preparedness.

I have had the opportunity to volunteer and engage with administrators in both independent and assisted living communities. One in-depth conversation with Tracy Philemon and Sharon F. Prior at Waltonwoods Senior Living helped me better understand the challenges associated with cognitive decline and how technology can support residents with critical information.
Tracy, Director of Independent Living, noted that in an emergency — such as when EMTs arrive after a 911 call — having an app like Sage provide a resident's health snapshot for that day, especially for those living alone, could be a game-changer in delivering timely and effective care. After trying the app's talk feature, Tracy noted how Sage effectively addressed a common issue for seniors. When prompted with "my heart is racing," the app highlighted dehydration as a potential factor, offering practical guidance such as staying hydrated and remaining in cool places.
Sharon Prior, with over 40 years of experience as a nurse and currently serving as Director of Nursing at Waltonwoods, highlighted the serious issue of social isolation and depression in seniors, whether at home or in assisted living. After trying Sage, she noted its potential to be a valuable tool for seniors. By monitoring cognitive wellness through engaging brain games, Sage keeps residents mentally stimulated while providing insights that help them stay connected, engaged, and supported.
